Inflammation is a bodily process in which our white blood cells protect us from infection. There are a lot of people who suffer from both acute and chronic inflammation. Whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) sessions can help to reduce your inflammation in a manner of minutes.

It makes sense that cold therapy speeds up the healing process. Haven’t you applied ice to swollen muscles before? The cold makes your blood vessels constrict and reduces the blood flow to the inflammed area. The result is that the pain, swelling, and inflammation decrease.

HOW CRYOTHERAPY WORKS

Cryotherapy decreases inflammation while simultaneously stressing your body enough to keep your cells on high alert. During WBC, your body is exposed to extreme cold through a cryo-chamber (a tank filled with liquid nitrogen-cooled air) for 2-3 minutes in temperatures that go as low as -130°C (-266°F).

The cold plunge elicits an adaptive response that strengthens your immune system by increasing white blood cells and immune cells. The short bursts of cold therapy increase the levels of antioxidants thereby causing optimal cellular function.

In an article published in the Journal of Thermal Biology, researchers reviewed several studies of the effects of WBC on inflammation on people with medical conditions as well as healthy athletes. They concluded that WBC not only decreases inflammation, it also enhances the quality of sleep.

WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY FOR ATHLETES

Though everyone can suffer from inflammation, athletes are more prone to it, because they are more at risk for injuries. This is the primary reason why full-body cryotherapy is a popular “treatment” for athletes and people with active lifestyles.

Whole-body cryotherapy not only supercharges your blood with enzymes, nutrients, and oxyge, it also helps to decrease inflammation, boost your energy level, and repair your muscle tissues. Whole body cryotherapy also improves your blood circulation, your range of motion and mobility, and alleviates joint pain.
